The Lonely H

According to vocalist Mark Fredson, the band got its name after thinking of the leftover byproduct of the five W questions: who, what, when, where and why. Quite often, the “how” is left out. But The Lonely H is bringing it back in style.

“It’s an important question,” said Fredson. “We’re trying to represent.”

On a more serious note, this band knows how to rock. Coming to State College all the way from Port Angles, Wash., the band puts its own style to a classic 70’s rock sound.

“[We play] old fashioned rock and roll, served up just the way you like it,” said Fredson.

The Lonely H has been together for nearly six years, and Fredson is joined by friends who joined with him to start the band. The group is rounded out by Eric Whitman on guitar, Ben Eyestone on drums, and Johnny Whitman on bass.

The band has been reviewed in many prestigious publications, including The New York Post and MSNBC. Fredson attributes the support of the people working behind the band for helping them to achieve this success.

“It is our music they’re reviewing, but they wouldn’t be reviewing it if it wasn’t for those people,” he said.

Just a few years out of high school, the members of The Lonely H take pride in the accomplishments they’ve seen at such a young age.

“We’re proud of our commitment to making a rock-and-roll way of life,” said Fredson. “The road is a concrete classroom; it’s a different kind of learning.”

The Lonely H also prides itself in the fact that its approach is to play 70’s classic rock. While most bands their age are going the modern indie route, The Lonely H is staying true to the classic rock roots of bands such as Led Zeppelin, Queen and Pink Floyd.

“We all just love rock and roll,” Fredson said. “It’s our way of life.”

See The Lonely H at 10 p.m. Monday at The Brewery. They will be headlining a show joined by The Swinging Fingers of York, Pa. and The Warmingtons of State College.
